Everybody wants to grow in some way. Perhaps you want to progress in a career, live a healthier lifestyle, increase you knowledge, have a stronger relationship with someone, deepen your spiritual life, or achieve a lifelong dream.
Do you know how to get better at what you do?
Do you know how to improve your relationships? To reach your goals? How do you gain more depth and wisdom as a person? How do you overcome obstacles?
Should you work harder, longer and wait for things to get better?
The answer is you have to have an intentional, strategic plan for growth.
John C Maxwell
You have dreams, goals and aspirations. Do you assume that if you just work really hard you’ll improve naturally? Maybe you are of the belief that if you pray and continue to do good, you will just walk into your prophetic calling. That is what I used to believe.
I don't like goals because I am afraid that I am not able to achieve them. However, as I become more involved with my studies and my work I can sense my worldview expanding as my brain makes way for all the new knowledge I am learning. I am discovering the naivety of my limited worldview and how this has shaped every aspect of my life including my faith. I am more aware now of the fact that faith without works (James 2:14-17) is unmotivated, fearful dreaming. (Like my fear of failing). It is hiding behind our faith (or fear) and wanting God to do all the things we can't. Which he can, but throughout scripture we find Him more interested in our allowing Him to make us bigger than our limitations. He calls us out of our "norm" and into His supernatural realm because He wants us to demonstrate that He is more than able by making us more than able. (Ephesians 3:20)
We have to be intentional and strategic about going and growing. It is not enough to just talk about it. It's not even enough to just make a plan. We have to walk the talk even when we can see a clear way ahead. (Hebrews 11:1) God has plans and we have to plan to be a part of His plans. We partner with Christ when we take ownership of our growth process because nobody else will do it for us. If we want our lives to improve we must plan to do so.
Intentional growth means growing on purpose.
Intentionally putting yourself into places and spaces that will make you uncomfortable because they are unfamiliar and challenging. Intentionally doing things that cause you to have to rely on God and His goodness. Intentionally seeking advice from others who are further along the journey than you. I have experienced supernatural provision as I embarked on mission trips with little or no money. I have prayed for people oppressed with demonic strongholds and saw them set free. This happened because I strategically aimed my plans, life, resources, thinking and emotions towards these specific callings and trusting God saw me stretched beyond my limits. My trusting God and doing my part enabled me to minister with the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:4)
I have been in the prophetic ministry for a wee while now and I have seen too many people discouraged when prophetic words don't come to pass. I see people who's faith is dictated by the results of their prayer requests. They miss the fact that they too have a part to play. It is God in us giving us the power to will and to act to fulfill His purpose. (Philippians 2: 13). They are happy to have faith in the God of prophecy without knowing Him deeply and yet when we know him intimately we will know that He is who He says He is and therefore - we are going to be great!
I want to take the prophetic ministry into the market place so I am now studying to become a qualified counselor. I want to help people process their experiences so they can courageously forge a new path forward into God's plan without the pulling from their past. I want to provide a place where they will walk into the goodness that is the nature of God. I want to facilitate people having an encounter with God through the demonstration of the gifts of the Spirit i.e. healing, prophecy, etc. I intend to become a qualified counselor and take the ministry outside the norms of church. I intend to be a demonstration of the healing power of God's love, for all who come looking for Him.
Being intentional is the key that moves us on from being inspired into becoming a demonstration of our creator. As we display His mighty love and power in our lives, we will not only inspire a generation of the restored and restorers, we empower them!
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1: 22-25
What are you waiting for? Do it now!
- Remember the Holy Spirit is in you and is an excellent teacher, learn to listen to Him
- Get qualified if you need to
- Get the tools/skills you need to grow
- Ask for help
- You were created His purpose and for this time.
Finally, as Joyce Meyers always says, "Feel the fear and do it anyway!"
God bless you
