Jesus the Way to the Father

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going,

so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14: 5-6

Have you ever found yourself so busy and your mind so filled that you’ve just wanted to stop the bus and get off?

Or maybe your choices have landed you in a place where you are filled with regret and wish you could just press the reset button?

Have you ever been so lost in your own darkness that it seems like you’re drowning and no one can hear your silent screams for help?

I believe when Jesus said that He was “the way” – he meant it.

My secret was finally out. This was it. I knew I was going to lose my job, be charged by the police and have to face the consequences with the law, my family and friends. In the chaos of my thoughts the walls grew dark and towered over me. They began to close me in and I knew the only option left for me was to end things. As I began to give into the darkness that enclosed me, I suddenly saw a telephone on the table. These interviews rooms don’t have phones. I didn’t understand it. I picked it up and dialled my sister’s work number.

“Hi G, it’s me – I’m in big trouble and I just want to know one thing.”

“What is it?” she asked

“Will you still love me?”

“Yes of course I will always love you” she answered without stopping to ask me for an explanation.

As soon as I heard this, the walls opened up and I could see light again.

In my darkness of guilt and shame, Jesus made a way.

Amongst my thoughts of death – Jesus made a way.

17 “He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
he drew me out of deep waters.
18 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
19 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.
20 He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me.

2 Samuel 22: 17-20

This was not the first time, nor the last time. Jesus has made a way for me.

If you are open to Him, you will see His hand everywhere. You will see doors, options, opportunities you never saw before. He is Creator God, creatively making spaces in our places for us to find our way back to Him – through His Son Jesus Christ. If we allow Him – He can bring us into a “spacious place” where it is clear and safe to think, to learn, to change, to love and to trust.

His love has a long reach and is strong enough to pull you out of the deepest waters. There is no enemy too strong for Him and no disaster too difficult.

In every situation, look for Jesus. Look for His way back to the Father. Look for the “spacious place”, the opportunities to do something different. To repent, to change. And finally, look and see that the Father delights in you.

If you are in a difficult place and space – why don’t you pray with me to the one who is and who makes a way.

Dear Jesus, I acknowledge that you are the only way back to the Father.

Forgive me for taking matters into my hands and not looking to you for direction.

Help me to see you drawing me out of the deep. Help me to see you rescuing me from my enemies. Help me to see your support in times of disaster and help me to see how you delight in me.

Help me to see you Lord.

Some things to remember:

1. Things can look clearer from outside so talk to someone who can help you, about what you are going through.

2. You may not be able to see the way but if you look for the Father, He promised He will be found by you.

3. When you find Him, it doesn't matter where you are, you are no longer lost.

If you would like someone to talk to – you can email me and I will pray for you.

How has God made a way for you in difficult times? I would love to hear from you.
